alladhīna idhā ik'tālū ʿalā l-nāsi yastawfūna

who demand of other people full measure for themselves,

3
وَإِذَاكَالُوهُمْأَووَّزَنُوهُمْيُخْسِرُونَ

wa-idhā kālūhum aw wazanūhum yukh'sirūna

but give less than they should when it is they who weigh or measure for others!

a Day when everyone will stand before the Lord of the Worlds?

7
كَلَّآإِنَّكِتَـٰبَٱلْفُجَّارِلَفِىسِجِّينٍۢ

kallā inna kitāba l-fujāri lafī sijjīnin

No indeed! The list of the wicked is in Sijjin––

what will explain to you what Sijjin is?––

10
وَيْلٌۭيَوْمَئِذٍۢلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Woe on that day to the deniers,

11
ٱلَّذِينَيُكَذِّبُونَبِيَوْمِٱلدِّينِ

alladhīna yukadhibūna biyawmi l-dīni

those who deny the Day of Judgement!

12
وَمَايُكَذِّبُبِهِۦٓإِلَّاكُلُّمُعْتَدٍأَثِيمٍ

wamā yukadhibu bihi illā kullu muʿ'tadin athīmin

Only the evil aggressor denies it:

إِذَاتُتْلَىٰعَلَيْهِءَايَـٰتُنَاقَالَأَسَـٰطِيرُٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

idhā tut'lā ʿalayhi āyātunā qāla asāṭīru l-awalīna

kallā innahum ʿan rabbihim yawma-idhin lamaḥjūbūna

No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from their Lord,

16
ثُمَّإِنَّهُمْلَصَالُوا۟ٱلْجَحِيمِ

thumma innahum laṣālū l-jaḥīmi

they will burn in Hell,

19
وَمَآأَدْرَىٰكَمَاعِلِّيُّونَ

wamā adrāka mā ʿilliyyūna

20
كِتَـٰبٌۭمَّرْقُومٌۭ

kitābun marqūmun

a clearly written list,

21
يَشْهَدُهُٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

yashhaduhu l-muqarabūna

witnessed by those brought near.

22
إِنَّٱلْأَبْرَارَلَفِىنَعِيمٍ

inna l-abrāra lafī naʿīmin

The truly good will live in bliss,

23
عَلَىٱلْأَرَآئِكِيَنظُرُونَ

ʿalā l-arāiki yanẓurūna

seated on couches, gazing around.

24
تَعْرِفُفِىوُجُوهِهِمْنَضْرَةَٱلنَّعِيمِ

taʿrifu fī wujūhihim naḍrata l-naʿīmi

You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss.

25
يُسْقَوْنَمِنرَّحِيقٍۢمَّخْتُومٍ

yus'qawna min raḥīqin makhtūmin

They will be served a sealed nectar,

26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥمِسْكٌۭ ۚوَفِىذَٰلِكَفَلْيَتَنَافَسِٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

khitāmuhu mis'kun wafī dhālika falyatanāfasi l-mutanāfisūna

its seal [perfumed with] a fragrant herb––let those who strive, strive for this––

27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥمِنتَسْنِيمٍ

wamizājuhu min tasnīmin

mixed with the water of Tasnim,

28
عَيْنًۭايَشْرَبُبِهَاٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

ʿaynan yashrabu bihā l-muqarabūna

a spring from which those brought near will drink.

29
إِنَّٱلَّذِينَأَجْرَمُوا۟كَانُوا۟مِنَٱلَّذِينَءَامَنُوا۟يَضْحَكُونَ

inna alladhīna ajramū kānū mina alladhīna āmanū yaḍḥakūna

The wicked used to laugh at the believers––

30
وَإِذَامَرُّوا۟بِهِمْيَتَغَامَزُونَ

wa-idhā marrū bihim yataghāmazūna

they would wink at one another when the believers passed by them,

31
وَإِذَاٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟إِلَىٰٓأَهْلِهِمُٱنقَلَبُوا۟فَكِهِينَ

wa-idhā inqalabū ilā ahlihimu inqalabū fakihīna

joke about them when they got back to their own people,

32
وَإِذَارَأَوْهُمْقَالُوٓا۟إِنَّهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِلَضَآلُّونَ

wa-idhā ra-awhum qālū inna hāulāi laḍāllūna

and say, when they saw them, ‘These people are misguided,’

33
وَمَآأُرْسِلُوا۟عَلَيْهِمْحَـٰفِظِينَ

wamā ur'silū ʿalayhim ḥāfiẓīna

though they were not sent to be their keepers-

34
فَٱلْيَوْمَٱلَّذِينَءَامَنُوا۟مِنَٱلْكُفَّارِيَضْحَكُونَ

fal-yawma alladhīna āmanū mina l-kufāri yaḍḥakūna

so today the believers are laughing at the disbelievers

35
عَلَىٱلْأَرَآئِكِيَنظُرُونَ

ʿalā l-arāiki yanẓurūna

as they sit on couches, gazing around.

36
هَلْثُوِّبَٱلْكُفَّارُمَاكَانُوا۟يَفْعَلُونَ

hal thuwwiba l-kufāru mā kānū yafʿalūna

Have the disbelievers [not] been repaid for their deeds?
