When ill, in pain, or distressed

For Pain in the Body

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ

A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.

I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and of what I guard against.

Muslim — place hand on the pain, say Bismillah 3× then this 7×

Place your hand on the place of pain and say Bismillah three times, then say this supplication seven times.

Visiting the Sick

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

La ba'sa, tahurun in sha' Allah.

No harm, it will be a purification (for you), if Allah wills.

Dua for the Sick

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ

As'alullaha-l-'Azima Rabbal-'Arshil-'Azimi an yashfiyak.

I ask Allah the Mighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal you.

Abu Dawud; At-Tirmidhi — seven times

For Distress

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

La ilaha illallahu-l-'Azimul-Halim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbul-'Arshil-'Azim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati wa Rabbul-ardi wa Rabbul-'Arshil-Karim.

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the Mighty, the Forbearing. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne.

Anxiety and Sorrow

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.
